Thanks for the information, I didn't realise it was going to be this weird.

I have updated my DiskBrowser to handle these new 'rules', there is now a 'Colour Quirks' menu option so that you can toggle between the two display methods (using alt-Q). It's on GitHub now and should be available through homebrew fairly soon.

I have an example of two screens posted here - https://www.dropbox.com/sh/tumzba618qh4hij/AACMDmLcMEO-TWgBJXcTNPEea?dl=0 It uses Michael's excellent ntsc.dsk.

Are there any more of these quirks that I should know about? mjm suggested earlier that 10-12 surrounding pixels can affect any pixel.
