Sometimes people who ask very specific questions here, have not leaped blindly into a situation, but have considered all the alternatives carefully, selected the one that looks optimal, and are now researching any possible downsides. In my case, I want/need to upgrade the operating system and the primary disk on my server. It so happens I have a perfectly serviceable computer, spare, in which to build it, test all the services and in general copy all the old machines primary data onto before committing it to going 'live'. Since it has a DVD, I don't need USB boot. In some sense I would make the spare machine primary except for one thing: The Atom is low power consumption and I want it to carry on doing what it does so well. Hence the question about building a working system on one mobo and then transferring it over. Now I have done this before, and in general it works, but I was looking for instances where it hasn't worked for other people, and why, to see if it applied. -- Bureaucracy defends the status quo long past the time the quo has lost its status.
