well the mobo came with gfx chips. It has no monitor attached normally.

If the Mobo will boot from a USB DVD drive which I do NOT currently possess.

Because I want to leave that running throughout. Its a rather vital part
of things. And I cant add a disk, I have to swap one, so data transfer
is tricky.

Why do peole always instead of answering 'can you do X' always suggest
'Y, Z, P and Q' instead?

Ive transfrred a working SDD from an older machine to a completely new
mobo and it 'just booted' apart from some oddities with a graphic card.

And redirect to the local X session? If that program launches otheres,
will they automagically inherit the display?

  The former I do

yes. A là 'virtual box'

If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will
eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such
time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic
and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally
important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for
the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the
truth is the greatest enemy of the State.
