MONEY, rather than MERIT, has always been important - but I think it's become SO much the over-riding factor now that The Future is seriously endangered. Read back to the early universities. MOST students were just fops, kids of Rich Guys. They were sent there for 'prestige' reasons, NOT to actually LEARN anything. Indeed it was considered pedestrian for 'gentlemen' TO learn anything. We're talking 1300s/1400s here ... the pattern was set ....... As for the know-nothing kiddies getting high salaries ... maybe think of it in 'evolutionary' terms. They will destroy their employers, then move on and destroy even more employers. In the end, moronic employers will be selected-against :-)
