Fortran nags incessantly, and 90% of the messages are either irrelevant or wrong. The most serious error, mis-spelling the name of something, is usually unreported, because the "nice" compiler just invented something with that name, so your program won't work and you don't have any clues. >> I know some people have experimented with enforcing stack >> comments. Hmmm, I know of a few words that leave either *this* many or *that* many in well-defined situations, but not really "undescribed". But, yes, I guess even that would be hard for an automatic checker.
