I doubt that this kind of CPU was relevant when the big Forth vendors
decided to switch to native code in the 1990s. If this market is big
enough to support the kind of system you are suggesting, I am sure
someone will go for it (if nobody else, you could). Likewise for the
scenario of being only allocated a few KB of a large memory space.

Not really. Simple native code is pretty simple, too. Guess what
ColorForth (Chuck Moore's Forth) does!

Sure, if you strive for purity, a classical threaded-code interpreter
is fine. But the variant you suggested deviates from that purity;
it's supposed to be an engineering compromise, but apparently one that
was not attractive enough.

That's a tough one; there is strongForth, but that feature requires
deep changes to the language.

We have had native-code compilers including sophisticated ones like
VFX for over 20 years now (VFX is only 15 or so, though). The world
has failed to collapse: We have not added static typechecking nor
precise GC, DEFER has picked up speed independently of implementation
approach, and quotations have been implemented in Gforth (more
threaded-code) before VFX.
