I would never buy a Mac. I like to 'fiddle' (I make/repair/upgrade my 
own PC's) and Apple actively discourage fiddling. they want users to pay 
a fortune to one of their accredited dealers to do what one could easily 
do themselves if it were a PC. but my very first personal computer was 
an Apple Mac, with 128k of RAM (no, that's not a misprint!) and no hard 
drive. but it was technologically streets ahead of IBM machines of the 
day, which were still using DOS. Win 3.1 hadn't been released of course, 
but when it was it was just a crude copy of the Mac OS, which was called 
'finder' as I recall. However, as windows evolved I decided to make the 
change. the cost of Mac hardware and software, the low cost of PC 
software/hardware by comparison, and not to mention the plethora 
available, and of course the ease of upgrading PC's were the crucial 
factors.

how about the fact that you just have to guess most of time how to do 
things? iPads don't even come with an instruction book for example. 
Apple tries to create the impression that it's a superior product for 
superior more intelligent users. snobby ppl who drive European cars and 
sip lattes always buy Apple products. :)

I had the same conclusion after buying an iPad. however, non apple 
tablets weren't in the race when I bought it. different story now though
