In my case, I tweaked Gnome3 to be mostly to my liking. That meant a
bunch of extensions but also editing raw XML files to adjust font sizes
and such. I was OK with it for a while. Then it got updated and all my
tweaks were deleted. Went to KDE right then on my laptop and haven't
looked back. Although KDE 4 still has some weird teething issues. Just
recently I figured out why screen lock wasn't working, it was just
because of some obscure dependency that hadn't made it to the package
manager. Installed some non-relevant sounding package and got
screenlocking working. This after my bug report languished in a limbo
for months...
