Ich war erst 1992 bei der IBM (bis 1997). Damals sagte man mir, dass man vor allem Sorge um die Sicherheit habe. Laien Computer überlassen? Die IBM hatte damals überwiegend Banken und Versicherungen als Kunden. Man konnte sich nicht vorstellen, dass diese Daten sicher sein könnten, wenn nicht oder schlecht ausgebildete Menschen diese Computer verwalten. Und so ein bisschen haben diese alten, weißen Männer ja auch Recht behalten. Patche ich eine AS/400 ist die Firma sicher. Patche ich einen Netzwerkserver, muss ich alle PC, alle Router, Modems und Gateways auch noch patchen. Vergesse ich eine Komponente, kann das gesamte Netz gefährdet sein. Für IBMer ein Alptraum. Banken und Versicherungen! "Ein Sack Flöhe hüten, wobei jeder Floh einen Sprengsatz trägt!" Gefährdet waren die Mainframes nicht. Sie sind bis heute ungefährdet. Mainframes sind eine eigene Klasse. Gerade die heutigen z-Systeme. Die können viel, was man mit PCs nicht erreichen kann. Sie funktionieren auch teilweise ganz anders (Booten, Partitionieren). Die Leute auch. Dort ärgert oder wundert sich niemand über COBOL. Man hat die Einstellung, dass programmiertes Knowhow immer Geld gekostet hat und dieses Geld nicht verloren gehen sollte, nur weil heute gefühlt alle drei Jahre die "weltbeste" Programmiersprache wechselt. Ich habe 1995 COBOL-Programme gesehen, deren Kommentar "(c) 1969 IBM" lautet. Das ist kein Witz. Gefährdet waren die Mehrplatzsysteme wie die IBM/36 bzw. später die AS/400. Und die hat ja auch gelitten. Auch wenn sich hartnäckig das Gerücht hält, dass Microsoft sehr lange eine AS/400 genutzt hat, weil man den eigenen Servern nicht traute. FW
