I can recommend that you always use the installed OS disk tools to shrink a OS's partition rather than a third party tool when possible. As for the free space linux install, I use the gparted gui tool to partition the free space however I desire, format the label the partitions. During the install I pick the custom partitioning selection and that way there is much less chance of screwing up some other partition contents. Then again I do not have a simple setup. # blkid -s device -s LABEL -s TYPE -s PARTLABEL | sort -V /dev/sda1: TYPE="vfat" PARTLABEL="recovery part" /dev/sda2: LABEL="EFI SYSTEM" TYPE="vfat" PARTLABEL="EFI SYSTEM" /dev/sda3: LABEL="Ms reserved" TYPE="ext4" PARTLABEL="Ms reserved" /dev/sda4: LABEL="mga3" TYPE="ext4" PARTLABEL="mga3" /dev/sda5: LABEL="mga4" TYPE="ext4" PARTLABEL="mga4" /dev/sda6: LABEL="mga5" TYPE="ext4" PARTLABEL="mga5" /dev/sda7: LABEL="cauldron" TYPE="ext4" PARTLABEL="cauldron" /dev/sda8: LABEL="local" TYPE="ext4" PARTLABEL="local" /dev/sda9: LABEL="accounts" TYPE="ext4" PARTLABEL="accounts" /dev/sda10: LABEL="misc" TYPE="ext4" PARTLABEL="misc" /dev/sda11: LABEL="spare" TYPE="ext4" PARTLABEL="spare" /dev/sda12: LABEL="video" TYPE="ext4" PARTLABEL="video" /dev/sdb1: LABEL="swap" TYPE="swap" PARTLABEL="swap" /dev/sdb2: LABEL="bk_up" TYPE="ext4" PARTLABEL="bk_up" /dev/sdb3: LABEL="hotbu" TYPE="ext4" PARTLABEL="hotbu" /dev/sdb4: LABEL="cauldron_bkup" TYPE="ext4" PARTLABEL="cauldron_bkup" /dev/sdb5: LABEL="vmguest" TYPE="ext4" PARTLABEL="vmguest" /dev/sdb6: LABEL="vid_bkup" TYPE="ext4" PARTLABEL="vid_bkup" /dev/sdb7: LABEL="hh" TYPE="ext4" PARTLABEL="hh"
