Sure it has a broader scope than a specific language. From one side it
is also true that it may apply to different languages in different ways
(because languages offer different facilities for this task)
About resources, I think others here may have more comprehensive
information about the literature available (which by the way should be
dealt with after getting a good knowledge of the language).

If you simply set the terminating '\r' (if any) and '\n' to '\0', isn't
it enough?

Indeed it has nothing to do with C. If it is hard to get rid of the
extra fields, you still have the option to ignore them - obviously this
applies to your larger program, here you only get the full line,
whatever amount of fields your input has.

My suggestion is simply that if found_char does the same job as strchr,
why not use strchr directly instead of found_char (obviously adapting
the code accordingly)?

In the strchr declaration the const char* argument is the string to be
searched, the character to be searched for is passed by value
(specifically it is an int)
Also I recall advices

The advice is good, it is passing newline by address that is unnecessary
here.
