It probably makes it more complicated but since you have not yet fully
specified what the program does, you may need this complication.

I don't understand.  You seem to want to check the first and then
compute some things.  I am suggesting you don't do that -- that you
check as you compute just as you have been in the exercises.

If you don't tell me what your program is going to do I can't advise
you!  What are the future computations?

It's a big topic but you try to find what the statistical packages call
a model that fits the data.  You might, for example, try a linear model
for which you calculate the equation of a "best fit" line though the
data.  If that is not a good fit, you might try an exponential model
from which you calculate a baseline and growth rate, again using some
statistical measure of goodness of fit.

The only computations described so far involve only numbers on one line.
I need to know what the program actually does if you'd like some advice
on how to go about writing it.
