It can do both. But my interests aren't your students interests, and it's
me that's posting, not them. 

They (and you as their mentor) must create and contribute to their topics
of interest.

Well, that's good; and I for one have appreciated your help, and recorded

Don't blame clf because it isn't as you would wish for your students;
blame them for not doing anything about it and their complete lack of
contribution.

Being appalled is not the answer. We can all do appalled.
