Like the tenth time, it "spawned" out of another project.  I just
ran with it to see where it leads.

Lol.  It was not...  That's very revisionist.

Microsoft's BASIC was installed in ROM on almost every home computer
of the era.  There were even a few that didn't have the MS name on
them, but was produced by them.
