Energy is a scalar unit, hence cannot become negative and has no direction. Since energy is positive and the LOSS of mass is negative, we need to add a negative sign somewhere. But I personally think, the equation (E=m*c²) needs also 'deltas', since 'mass lost' addresses a difference, for what you should use a delta. TH
