That's not the point.  If you can verify the input you do.  If you can't
you just process it.  The point is that you can't tell if the input is
changing or was simply wrong to start with.  You have to handle (or
ignore or process -- your choice) whatever data you get.  There is, in
this case, nothing special about changing data.

But there is no need to "give up".  You report that the data you saw was
either all As or it was not all As.  Anyone reading the output should
know the program is simply reporting on what it saw at the time.

If you meant to say that simple C programs can't give you strong
temporal assertion about data it once saw, then no, they can't.  But
that such a trivial fact it hardly bears stating.  When 'cat f' shows me
that f contains "hello", I don't assume it still does; I just assume
that cat read those characters.  The file may change during or after the
execution of the cat program, but that makes no difference to me or to
the program.

There are cases where change causes unique problems but I didn't think
we were talking about special cases.  Your "if the data changes you
might as well give up" sounded very general, but in the vast majority of
cases, not only do you not need to give up, you don't even need to do
anything special.

(Have you got an example of a loop that's simpler with pre-EOF testing
yet?  I don't want that interesting point to slip away.)
