That's correct, but how did you come by that knowledge?  After all,
most path names can be quoted without causing problems.

anon@lowtide:/usr/bin$ cd
anon@lowtide:~$

It is not a "side issue" when it comes to the tilde.  Nothing prevents 
you from having a directory "~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/"
anywhere in your tree.
