Thanking someone because he or she agrees with you is a strange, perhaps 
morbid, gesture, because agreeing with an argument is not, or should not be, 
done to please you, but because of the content of such argument.

Thanking for agreeing with an ad-hominem attack is something else, and that 
is because such ad-hominem attacks are part of the recognized logical 
fallacies.
