I don't have any windows here, let alone 10, so dunno if it applies to W10... if you right click the jar files and pick "open with ..." what does it offer? maybe you accidentally changed the association from javaw.exe to java.exe, which could lead to similar problems. if the open with doesn't tell you, you might search the registry for "jar"... I once saw a machine that insisted on opening .jnlp files with adobe acrobat, so maybe it might be a similar thing with your .jar files.
