When I checked the value of JAVA_HOME via echo %JAVA_HOME% at a Windows command prompt, I found that it was C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_131. When I looked at the Path environment variable (the System one), JAVA_HOME\bin was NOT there. *However*, the very first thing in Path was: C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath. I had a look in *that* directory and guess what I found? A copy of each of java.exe, javaw.exe and javaws.exe! I'm wondering if this arrangement eliminates the need to have copies of those same programs in Windows\System32?? >> >> I've got two environment variables name Path, one belonging to my user >> name and one for the machine. No - I don't understand the naming either. > I copied java.exe, javaw.exe and javaws.exe into the \System32 folder just to be sure that the absence of those files in that folder was not the problem. Now, I haven't rebooted but that shouldn't be necessary should it? Or does Windows not see additions to the library unless I reboot? Maybe I *should* reboot because putting those three .exe files in \System32 did NOT help. Okay, I'll reboot, try Eclipse again, then finish this draft post. I'm back from the reboot and Eclipse *still* isn't working. >> How do the files get there in the first place?
