If you look around you can probably find one written in 100% Java, but why bother? Apache has had a battering over the years, so is stable, pretty much bugfree and reasonably secure. In addition its very well documented. > http://tomcat.apache.org/ Tomcat isn't a webserver. It is/was referred to as an application server, IOW its a framework for executing Java web applications. > https://eclipse.org/jetty/ > https://sourceforge.net/projects/wampserver/ > http://apachegui.net/ > I've not seen any of them though I've heard of Jetty. Others can pontificate here. Personally, I've been using Apache for well over 10 years, helped on with a small amount of PHP. Another advantage is that Apache is available on a large number of webhosts, which suits me: My private copy of it is used to support my internal, LAN-only web service and for developing pages for publication on my public websites. When I'm happy with new or modified pages, publishing them is as simple as using FTP to copy them onto the relevant public website. One more essential tool for the web developing neophyte - HTML Tidy. This parses web pages and reports invalid syntax, etc by line number. At some time we all need to hand craft HTML pages or fragments or would like to check that HTML generated by our new application is correct. HTML Tidy is the obvious tool in both cases. -- martin@ | Martin Gregorie gregorie. | Essex, UK org |
