Again, IIRC the WAR file contains, among other things static pages, Java Beans and, presumably, related classes, i.o.w. its not unlike a jar file. The Java classes and beans in it must have been compiled somewhere and it seems likely that 'somewhere' would not be part of the web hosting environment containing the Tomcat Instance you'd be using to support your experimental website. In which case you'd still need a local(?) development system to prepare the WAR file. What did I miss? > (I have a Raspberry-Pi sitting here doing nothing.) > Fire it up and see what it can do. I see that Java is supported by recent Raspbian versions, but if your RPi is as old as mine (an RPi B+) then yours probably doesn't have Java installed, so you'd need to do that. Its almost certainly Open Java, which in included as a Debian package, so no need to download it from Oracle. You may find compilations are quite slow on an RPi B+ because they only have .5GB RAM and a single core MPU clocked at 0.7 GHz. I certainly find mine noticeably slow when compiling decently sized chunks of C. This is the main reason I suggested that getting an RPi 3 might be money well spent because having 1GB RAM, quad cores and a 1.2 GHz clock is going to make quite a speed difference. -- martin@ | Martin Gregorie gregorie. | Essex, UK org |
