You might be surprised. Neither of the webhosting providers I've used
over the last 15 years have offered any of the common Java application
servers, let alone Tomcat, but both support Apache (plus PHP etc).

Can't help with Tomcat, but my house server runs Fedora 23[*] on a fairly
ancient 4GB Dual Athlon box and is currently using 500MB of RAM including
buffers etc to run Apache, PostGreSQL and Postfix along with their
transient helpers and the usual smaller servers, such as Dovecot, sshd,
and friends.

[*] my server is temporarily stuck there because kernel 4.7.10 is the
last kernel I'm aware of that doesn't have a bug in kswapd0 that can
crash large rsync backups. All version of kernel 4.8. that I've tried
show this problem. It was reported some weeks back but apparently hasn't
yet been resolved.
