Here, gcc merely warns against a useless declaration. Other compilers
either report an outright error, or report nothing at all, with default
options (DMC and MSVC).
Does a line such as this belong in any correct program? Does the
standard actually allow this? If so then it has a bug.
(Actually I was testing typedefs:
typedef double T;
{
const T;
T;
expecting an error on one of these lines. Is it defining a new const int
variable called T, or is it defining a const double with a missing name?
It doesn't help when the compiler apparently isn't bothered no matter
what I write!
This was another test:
enum E {a=1};
{
typedef enum E T;
enum E {b=2} x;
T y;
x is an enum of type {b=2}. But what about y? I assuming it is of type
{a=1}. (Not that it makes much difference as both x,y are really ints I
think. But it shows how typedefs and defines could give different results.))
