Actually we have the word 'Nation' in German, too, but with a different 
meaning.

This is a common problem, because often words sound similar in other 
languages, even if their meaning is different.

This problem has the name 'false friend'.

Now 'nation' does not refer to tribes in German but to countries.

Actually tribes are not a concept in modern societies. In anthropology 
they research tribes, of course. But modern societies do not know 
anything like that.

(Actually some subcultures like hooligans or 'bikers' use tribalism for 
entertainment purposes.

But that is more like a fashion in some subcultures.)
