Wozniak: I think that time is experienced and recognized by animals because they compare rates of change, and the bear in Alaska anticipates the salmon run at the time of year it experienced it before. Some flowers bloom on the same day at the same length every year. So, time is an abstraction with different human conventions. Since it is a comparison of rates of change, it helps to have one standard of reference. Since that is an abstraction, to vary it would be a reification fallacy, like changing the meter. An excellent book on time is "Primitive Time Reckoning" by Martin Nilsson, a famous scholar who wrote it while Europe was waging WWI.
