That's somewhat unusual and tedious. I'm not sure I see the point when you can create both local and remote mailboxes right in the mail client as shown in the article. >>> As long as they're out of Inbox, they're safe? >> >>They are safe anyway, since once they show up on the local client, >>they are safely cached there. If that's what you want, sure. What I'm trying to figure out is why you want to be able to delete stuff from the server without moving it to a local mailbox and still have other clients see the message. What use case is there for that type of behavior? It seems very simple to me: If you want a message to be available in all locations (to all clients), simply leave it on the server (either in the Inbox or in another server mailbox. If you want a message to be available only on a single client, move the message to a *local* mailbox that exists only on the single client. It's very straight forward compared with POP. >>Note that other clients won't have access to such messages once you do >>that though, which is why creating server-based mailboxes is often >>more desirable. > > And then you set up the Mac to check mail in all of those mailboxes? No. When you create a *server* (as opposed to *local*) mailbox, that mailbox is stored within the IMAP hierarchy of mailboxes for that account. With an IMAP account, you can create any number of mailboxes on the server. There's no need to configure the client to check for it since it's already checking that account when you check for mail. -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. I often ignore posts from Google. Use a real news client instead. JR
