The term "session" has a very precise meaning for POSIX/UNIX, defined
by the IEEE/Open Group/ISO standard as "A collection of process groups
established for job control purposes."

Of course, this isn't the way "session" is being used in this
thread, but I'm surprised you haven't heard the term - POSIX has had
the setsid() call (which creates a new session) since the very first
POSIX.1 standard in 1988.
