Here's an example of a full-page scan, parameters tuned so that
piping to pnmtops and then to lpr produces a copy aligned on the
page almost exactly the same as the original, at least with my
scanner and printer (YMMV):

    scanimage -d hp $mode -l 8 -t 4 -x 203 -y 267 > $outfile

where $mode is empty, '--mode Color', or '--mode Gray'.
