I recommend trying it again with that combination and seeing if the results meet your requirements. I don't know what else to say, except that xsane is as complicated as it is for a reason. I last wrote about integrating xsane/gimp on my blog here: http://preview.tinyurl.com/3vxwqqk As far as hardware, I have a HP Photosmart c72xx series. It works very well as a flatbed scanner, and even works via network connection. That all-in-one model number is probably discontinued by now; HP is known for going through hardware models like a hot knife through butters. Their new business model based on selling proprietary ink cartridges is also discouraging...c'est la vie -- Douglas Mayne
