We of course have no idea which terms you have trouble with. scanning?

Which canon flatbed scanner?

I have no idea what his trouble is with xsane. Put the photo into the
scanner, startup xsane. If it finds your scanner, open up the preview
window (WINDOW->PREVIEW if it does not open automatically) press the
preview button, bring the borders ( little dotted lines) to nestle up
against the regioun you actually want to scan, and in the main window,
press scan. (If you want to change the resolution you scan at, do so--
it is the entry with the bunch of different sized dots. Ffor photo
quality, choose the max scan resolution but be warned the file will be
really huge--many MB-- if you choose the higher resolution. If you just
want any old thing, choose a lower resolution-- eg 300dpi)
Press the scan button, and a window with the pictue will appear. If you
like what you see, press the Save button and tell it what the filename
will be. Reoeat for other pictures.
