In '71 I moved to Springfield MA for a new job. One evening I was making 
the rounds of the bars downtown, not being familiar with the city. I 
walked into one and ordered a whiskey and water. I was thirsty so I next 
ordered a beer. The bartender said 'Oh, you''re AC/DC' with a wink. I 
looked around more closely at the 'girls' and realized where I was. I 
finished my beer, tipped the bartender, and left. No harm, no foul.

The Kinks were explicit. I was in Omaha NE setting up machinery when Lola 
was near the top of the charts. A DJ taking call in requests wouldn't play 
it, but that was Omaha. They prefer livestock.

Lou Reed's 'Walk on the Wild Side' didn't make it as high on the charts 
but it also was about a subculture.  As you said, nobody really cared too 
much.
