As I noted elsewhere recently, the definition of IS in the c.l.f. archives
for IS (used with DEFER) and TO (used with VALUE) are *identical*.  So, I
don't understand why IS would be non-IMMEDIATE but TO should be IMMEDIATE.

The example below works for gForth, Win32Forth, bigForth.  How would that
work if IS is not IMMEDIATE?

DEFER PARITY
: ?EVEN 2 MOD 0= IF ." EVEN" THEN ;
: ?ODD 2 MOD 0<> IF ." ODD" THEN ;
: EVEN ['] ?EVEN IS PARITY ;
