I was assuming that the user-supplied data would have essentially the
structure:
{
size_t capacity, length, element_size;
my_type data[];
};
So there shouldn't be any aliasing issues with the first three members
of the struct. Extracting the elements of the data array would require
conversion of a pointer back to the user's type before dereferencing it,
which would result in an lvalue matching the effective type of the data.

It refers to struct da_meta_data, but the only lvalue it actually
deferences is the element_size member of that struct, which should have
the same type (int) as the effective type of the memory that it refers
to. Similarly for the other functions you mention.

It doesn't write the entire struct object, so it doesn't set the
effective type of the entire struct object. It sets the effective type
only for the the memory it actually writes, which is "int".
