I don't think it can work, but correct it me if I am wrong.
For the array to work, the allocted object must have the
effective type compatible with the element type that the
user wants.  For a dynamic array of int, the allocated
object must have the effective type int.  6.5p6 (in C99),
prevents any write accesses save through a char lvalue if
one wants to keep the effective type of the allocated object
unchanged.  And 6.5p7 forbids any read accesses save those
through a char lvalue because they will not alias (the user-
supplied type of the array element being inacessible to the
library code).  Can you indicate my error or maybe post an
example of accessing an allocated object of unknown type
through a struct for the header?
