They realized the programmers were perfectly happy loading Linux on them. 
We did get new Dell Windows 11 boxes during the transition. They did offer 
the replaced laptops and desktops to the employees first before selling 
them to a recycler. At the time my Dell desktop was the same generation 
and I didn't need another laptop.  Compared to replacing the Windows boxes 
in a mostly Windows shop keeping the programmers content was a minor 
point. We could also get hand-me-down monitors. Other than mirroring a 
laptop on a real screen I've never cared for multiple monitors so I 
passed.
