It means that you want to unmount the partition which has been mounted on the directory location /name/of/partition/mount/point (Of course you have to give it the actual name of the directory location on which the relevant partition has been mounted.) You could try umount -a to umount everything Those partitions in use will not be unmounted. but that might unmount some stuff you do not want unmounted. df -a will list everything that is mounted. Unfortunately it used to be that df listed all regular mounted stuff (eg not proc, or sys..) but now it edits stuff so that if two subdirectory of some partition are mounted it will only list one of them, making df much less useful. Idiocy. df -a list everything, including all cgroups, etc ( a huge bunch of junk almost noone has any interest in.) Thus the question "whats mounted" no longer has a reasonable answer. > > >> >
