Ich habe inzwischen herausgefunden, dass mein Laptop beim Umschalten des
Grafikmodus beim Booten von XP kurz auch über HDMI und VGA ein Bild
ausgibt. Ein externer Monitor zeigt den gleichen Kauderwelsch an.
Laut diversen Seiten soll das tatsächlich am GPU-Chip, bzw. dessen
Lötverbindungen liegen. Es gibt Werkstätten, die das reparieren.

Davon habe ich auch gelesen, aber bei meinem Book ist der Chip direkt
auf das Mainboard gelötet. Das ganze Ding möchte ich nicht in den Ofen
schieben.
Beim Aus- und Einlöten von BGA-Chips werden die Platinen angeblich über
eine längere Zeit auf ca. 100 Grad erwärmt und dann die Chips kurz mit
IR und/oder Heißluft auf höhere Temperaturen gebracht.
Dass die blanke Backofen-Methode auch zum Erfolg führen kann, würde mich
nicht überraschen.

Ein Display hätte ich wahrscheinlich selbst ausgetauscht, aber das
BGA-Löten sollen besser Leute machen, die Erfahrung und Ausstattung
dafür haben. Bei einem 17"-Book lohnt sich die Investition.
