	Well I used KDE all the time.  Back when Mandriva was active and
I could buy the PowerPack edition I switched from KDE to Gnome 2.4 and
made a 2 week trial of that desktop system.  I found that the tools
were not so handy as KWrite, Kate and and Kb3 and that Bracero was
absolutely unreliable.  There was another optical disk burning program
as well but it was equally unreliable.

	I went back to KDE. I don't use the graphic special effects.
I have used it on a very old *Dell Inspiron 4000 dual booting with
XP and it worked fine once I reduced the number of virtual desktops
to one.  This was a machine made to have no more than 512 MiB of
ram with video ram of 8 MiB.  700 MegaHertz coppermine processor
and it worked just fine.

	I agree with you that KDE/Plasma 5 is not ready for prime
time or regular use.  It was that way with Mandriva when KDE 4.x
was forced down our throats but eventually they got the same
facilities for users as we had before.  It is early days for
Plasma 5 and I expect it to get to a level where I can use
it easily in the same ways I use KDE 4.14.5 on my Mageia 5RC.
Currently on an HP Notebook with an AMD A10 4 core processor
8 GiB of Ram and a 700+ GiB hard drive with 8.1 installed
and Mageia 4.1 as well as 5RC.  Saving my dimes and nickels
for a i7 4 core machine with a quad density screen if I
need it in the next couple of years.

	Hey I started with a Commodore 64 went to a 128 and
then to the Amiga 1000*, Amiga 2000b added in an 68060 and
a 3.4 GiB SCSI drive, Finally after 2000 I gave in and
started with XP, went to Mandriva 2006 and then tried out
Knoppix 3.12. I have never turned back from the systems
based on Mandriva or even on Mandrake.  I try some of the rest
and in my LUG will provide the latest version of whatever
a user want to use even Ubuntu.
	When I was kid a computer was an arithmetician working
on calculations for engineers and scientists or statisticians.
Something like a book keeper or accountant, good jobs but
boring.
	Later on a computer was a big electrical machine
using punched cards for input served up to it by the
machines' attendants.
	Meantime I was a nurse who by the 1970s got do
data entry on paper for data entry clerks to enter into the
computer.  After I stopped being a nurse I worked for
a political education organization that published a newsletter.
I helped maintain the data for the mailing list by the
same means as when I worked as a nurse.  I suggested doing
this in house and they ended up with a PC clone.  The
mailing list had been maintained on 8 inch,ry floppy disks.
	After I had used the C=64 for a while I tried
a clone but my knowledge was inadequate to use that tool.
I tried CPM on the C=128* and learned something about OSes
but hated the opaque tools available and the prices
charged for better tools.

	I got the Amiga* which had a GUI and my work through-put
went up 10x.  I learned about the Amiga OS and upgraded from
Amiga OS 1.2 to 1.3 to 2.1 to 3.1 to 3.9 which involved pulling
roms and replacing them with the updates.  I learned SCSI termination
and about hard disk partitions. I learned about the great online
repositories for Amiga programs, Aminet and used Unix accounts
at BBSes to bring down updates and new programs,  I learned about
Virus Checkers and isolated one running free in a disk magazine shop.
I got my first XP laptop
	Linux was a breeze to deal with after that.  I just found
a LUG and I had local help to deal with editing boot menus and
other parts of the configuration.

	Back on topic:KDE is as good as it gets when the work of
taking care of the details is caught up on.  You need a powerful
computer to use it but Windows and MS will make sure you can find
one cheap.
