There are 4 TVs and they are 'networked' in that any of them can record or play independently on/from a centralized DVR. So there is an outside sat dish which is cabled to an inside device which comms w/ the rest of the system wirelessly. All of that equipment belongs to the sat tv service, none to me. Personally, considering the 'cheap' programming I prefer to watch, I don't think I'm getting a good deal, but I don't know of a better alternative. Prior to this sat business, the 4 were cable tv.
