I tend to buy cheap computers on sale, since I ceased assembling them
from parts bought whenever a 'piece' was on sale. And I don't discard
the old computer/s, but keep them around.

A typical cheap computer comes w/ a Win installed, in my case the last
laptop I bought had W10, and the oldest desktop I have still running has
XP. I have 2 desktops which came w/ a refurb W7 license.

My rigs employ kb-mouse-video switches, so two old desktops share the
same station, and my chair can access two of those stations, ie 4
desktops. But rarely more than 2 at a time.

99.5% of the time I'm in linux. The other 0.5% I do something in Win7,
previously that was XP.

As I'm typing this, it is from a Mint Cinnamon 'live' w/ persistence.
To my right is another machine which is at this 'instant' using W7 to
print a couple of puzzles from PDFXChange to IrfanView because I like
those tools for that purpose. Yesterday I booted a live Mint Cinnamon
plus LibreOffice there to print a couple of mailing labels which I had
previously done w/ the XP machine because it was already rigged for the
proprietary Avery labels, but I had moved the USB connected printer off
the XP machine. That W7 machine is usually used to boot some variable
live linux on a Ventoy stick.

Dual booting in the conventional sense doesn't actually fall into any of
the above scenarios.

When I boot the W10 laptop, I do it w/ a MX Linux live w/ persistence
because I don't like W10.

It would be possible for me to replace all of the machine installations
which still have a Win, XP, 7, or 10 w/ a linux and have NO machines
still w/ a Win, but it would be slightly less convenient. And unnecessary.

For me, having/using multiple machines is more convenient, not less.
