You put the scheme into very precise words:

"Their gullibility, obedience, loyalty, and obsequiousness is often 
rewarded."

So "useless quantum chromodynamics" was NOT useless at all, since it is 
apparently useful for brainwashing and for finding out, who is is loyal 
(and gullible).

I often had the feeling, there is some entirely different physics hidden 
and only revealed to initiates.

To get initiated, you need a Ph.D. in theoretical physics, which is a 
top-grade proof of loyalty, obedience, ability to learn and fitness of 
the brain.

So QM trains more the 'brain muscles', rather than the actual 'sport'.

This would be inevitable, if there is in fact hidden physics and you 
would try to exploit it, but need trained personal.

You cannot train them with the real thing, since otherwise you could 
also announce your secrets on YouTube.

You must rain them with something entirely useless, what the 
non-initiates cannot merge into anything useful on their own.
