The usual equation 'E=m*c²' uses ill-defined measures.

If you apply it to a ray, the term 'mass' (in connection to rays) would 
be meaningless.

If you look only at the sample, the term 'energy' is not well defined, 
since a sample is 'stuff'.

And material objects have mass. But you cannot really say 'stuff has 
energy', since to measure energy would require a process, in which 
energy is released.

That would be a radioactive decay, of course, but the term energy would 
be used for the emitted rays and not for the mass of the material object.

And if you apply the correct relations, the equation 'E=m*c²' is wrong, 
since the signs are wrong.
