Applying the unqualified word "ignorance" in the latter case is rather unhelpful. For example, we do not know the highest prime number. This is not a case of ignorance - the reason we do not know it is that there is no such thing. This seems to be case with quantum mechanics. Our inability to predict the outcome of a quantum interaction is not due to our failing to know something about the internal state of the particles involved, but arises because there is nothing there to know. The result is random, and that's all that can be said about it. Sylvia
