Fundamental to this is that Slackware is being discussed, and Slackware 
doesn't have everything.  So if it's not part of Slackware, it has to be 
copiled.  Maybe you'l be lucky and find that someone has already compiled 
it out there somewhere, but that isn't always the case, especially not as 
a Slackware package.  Slackware turns 20 next month, but other 
distributions get the attention, and the really large depositories.
