I agree, I've often wished x86 had reverse subtract. :-)

1/x otoh is so interesting that hw tweaks for it tends to turn up, like 
the ~12 bit reciprocal lookup opcode in SSE.

BTW, if I can only get a single lookup opcode I'd prefer inverse square 
root, since I can use that to trivially get the plain reciprocal value.
