Still, I fail to see how that is a problem. Basically, I use the same /home on all my systems (I just take care of specifying the UID/GID of each users so they're the same on all these systems). Now, if you want to be fashionable and use the editor du-jour, of course, you will have to deal with those problems, but don't worry, next season, you will have a new editor with new themes, to go with the color of your shoes. Instead, if you want to do serious work, just install and compile yourself the current version of emacs. Or whatever software you use daily, actually. You cannot count on an administrator working tens of thousands of kilometer away on generic hardware, and whose sole purpose is to make sure the system won't break for millions of users, to compile and administrate your system and software. > https://xkcd.com/619/ Flash?
