A desktop PC is also known as a WORKSTATION, i.e. a place for serious and extensive COMPUTING work, be it document production, image processing, application programming, scientific simulations, etc., etc. The average Joe/Jane just wants instant, no-brainer email and Facebook. A thumb-drive computer could accommodate those tasks and that thumb-drive will contain MS Windows. Microsoft Windows is for brain-dead losers, and they can have it. Because the average Joe/Jane could not distinguish a logic gate from a sewer hole in the ground, Microsoft invented the Windows OS to appeal to such stupidity. MS Windows completely hides the digital machine and overlays it with various helper devices to serve as crutches for the mentally lame user. The average Joe/Jane cannot even edit a simple text file (he/she doesn't even know what a text file is) and so Microsoft gives him/her configuration windows with no-brainer check boxes and other such retarded stuff. Yes, Microsoft is for total idiots, and they can have it. But there are repercussions for us all. What I hate the most is the names these Microsoft users give to the various files they may post. Invariably these file names contain spaces and punctuation characters. Example: My Picture of When I Visited My Mom's House & Got Drunk.jpeg. Hey idiot! Hey dumb-fuck! Don't you understand that digital file names are not supposed to contain spaces and punctuation characters? Even though they technically CAN contain them, they really SHOULD NOT contain them. Fortunately, for Linux, there are programs which can process these asinine file names and remove the idiotic junk: Sanity: http://www.splitbrain.org/projects/sanity I have to use such programs ALL THE GODDAMNED TIME to restore a decent form to the file names created by Microsoft idiots. Yes, Microsoft Windows is for brain-dead assholes, and they can have it.

Technical or scientific work, Fabio. That's why you've never had one.
Sam has one, but he doesn't know how to run it. That's why he never
corrected the orange color balance on his "pretty good photos".

Big mouth with only nonsense coming out of it. No data. No references.
No intelligence. No nuttin'.
Do you think people don't have better things to do than listen your
undying belief in your "faith" with nothing to back it up? You must be
taking lessons from Heating and ventilation. He thinks his opinion needs
no proof too.
Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one. That's why science relies
on evidence instead.
Just go play with your computer and headphones and keep telling yourself
how much you know.
Say wait a minute. You are stooopid enough you might actually BE HVAC!
Say, you and HVAC sending barbs at "each other", now that would have
been a nice bit o' "tradecraft"!

Would love to see what type tasks you think your system handles well. Here are some that were discussed in COLA a while back... the Linux users did not fare very well. * From a single online recipe (or art project, lesson plan, whatever) save it and email a PDF version where you add notes to it. Now I know this can be done on Linux; save, open, edit, email. Just curious to see how you people would generally do it and how streamlined the workflow would be. A couple ways I might: <https://youtu.be/NPM_WldEBs0>. * Make a video, as Owl and I have been, but with cursor replacement / resizing (post production), window highlighting, zooming, arbitrary area highlighting. For me these were done just to show something else: <https://youtu.be/aSNpnYpmKag>. I have many other options but picked these because they fit the real-world example I did shortly before coming up with the "challenge". * Getting a WayBackArchive page and getting images of all links, the HTML validation and CSS validation from W3.org, and a active link to the archive page, as I did here (does not have to look the exact same, of course): <http://tmp.gallopinginsanity.com/sandman/sandman-archive.pdf>. -- * OS X / Linux: What is a file? <http://youtu.be/_dMbXGLW9PI> * Mint MATE Trash, Panel, Menu: <http://youtu.be/C0y74FIf7uE> * Mint KDE working with folders: <http://youtu.be/7C9nvniOoE0> * Mint KDE creating files: <http://youtu.be/N7-fZJaJUv8> * Mint KDE help: <http://youtu.be/3ikizUd3sa8> * Mint KDE general navigation: <http://youtu.be/t9y14yZtQuI> * Mint KDE bugs or Easter eggs? <http://youtu.be/CU-whJQvtfA> * Easy on OS X / Hard on Linux: <http://youtu.be/D3BPWANQoIk> * OS / Word Processor Comparison: <http://youtu.be/w6Qcl-w7s5c>
