Fabian Russell wrote this copyrighted missive and expects royalties: > Hey idiot! Hey dumb-fuck! Well, spaces in filenames do put an extra burden on someone trying to get a script working properly. What cracks me up is typical Microsoft thinking. Why "Program Files" rather than just "Programs"? Why bloat up the filename when some of the config GUIs (e.g. environment variable GUI) are tiny portholes that can't even display a whole UNIX-style path? And I'll not start on the 64-vs-32 bit nonsense of Microsoft Windows. -- Today is what happened to yesterday.

Spaces in a filename (or *any* command-line arg) don't "choke" any command line parser. The command line parser behaves exactly as it should and follows the syntax rules exactly as designed. Any command line arg (not just filenames) with a space needs to be quoted. This is how it's always been and always will be. Nothing is broken and nothing is choking. Things are working exactly as they're supposed to work. Needing to add quotes around args with spaces doesn't mean something is broken or choking. Those are simply the command line grammar rules. Similar to grammar rules that exist in SQL, programming languages, etc.
