Much of this depends on the company behind the mouse rather than Linux
vs. Windows.  Do they follow a standard protocol for mouse buttons? (Is 
there even a standard protocol that covers a zillion mouse buttons?) Or
do they do something proprietary?  (And esp. if proprietary) Did they
release Linux drivers or code examples applicable to Linux (or Mac FWIW)?
Or did they cheap out and spend money only to develop a Windows driver?
